This is from my freshman year of college, and it is something that I was rather proud of for a long time. I still think it is pretty good and quite informative. It explains the use of metaphors in our daily lives and how we need them to function in many ways. If you like this paper, I highly recommend reading "Metaphors We Live By" By George Lakoff and Mark Johnson, where I actually got the bulk of the work for this from. In their book, however, it gets a bit metaphysical by the end and (I feel) loses track of the metaphorical premise of the book. At any rate, this is probably the largest linguistic undertaking I have done to date so I hope you learn a lot.
