Old Crazy Man Pickett!! is a character I thought of my sophomore year of highschool (1998) if not earlier. At the time, he was supposed to be what I would grow up to be eventually. I do not recall exactly what inspired him initially, but I do know that he just kept getting stranger and stranger as the mention of him continued. The most notable thing about Old Crazy Man Pickett!! is and was his appearance, with the, cape, bowler hat, and union jack vest... along of course with his spectacles, and great forked beard. His persona is a nice old man, who just kind of does as he pleases and knows no fear to the point of stupidity. He is very outspoken and cares not who hears him, or what he says when they do. His outspokenness, is admittedly a character trait I share with him, not caring whether I cuss in front of old ladies or young children, or whether I bring up controversial issues in front of the wrong people. Pickett!! in many ways is a representation of freedom. He reminds me a little of Maude, from Harold and Maude, because of his attitude about life.
If ever there was a character that I could be truly zany with, it would be Old Crazy Man Pickett!!. He has no set characteristics, saving to say that he is totally wild and filled with a robust love of life and things absurd. He is not a serious character at all and his stories have no definite direction to them, save to just be funny and strange. In many ways, I hope I grow to be exactly like him when I get older, I think to have this much of an appreciation for self and uniqueness would be a great gift. I do not know the exact details of his past yet, or why he is like he is, except maybe a bit of senility. I think it has to do with his former life and how bored with it he grew and obviously, being based off of me, he has learned a vast amount of life lesson’s since my age. He is a man of great experience, having tried most things in life, and having been most places in the world at one time or other (as I am now trying to do). I could not tell you if he was burned by people, or why he keeps his solitary habits, saving to say that people are afraid of his overbearing demeanor and personality. It seems that Old Crazy Man Pickett!! is a man who does exactly what he wants when he wants, he just makes sure he doesn’t hurt anyone doing it.
His character changes from story to story, and there are only a few things ever constant about him, but by and large he is made to fit the plot. I hope to have a lot of fun writing about him in the future, and I hope more so, that you enjoy reading about him.
