The Dorset Trip

Okay, I know I am writing this a bit later than I should like to be, but I have been busy and lazy in that order and unable or unwilling to write consequently. But now, I have gained the stamina and drive to actually get this done. Anyway, what have I been up to this last weekend particularly Friday and Saturday, well here, I shall tell you. To begin, I woke up bright and early with Seamus, and went to school, and once there, we got onto the internet and posted our updates, and we did this because the internet was naturally acting terribly the night before. After that we boarded the bus, and drove out from London, towards Dorset, which was actually a fairly nice drive, on the way I began work on my novel, or story or what you will, called Frasier Nido. After my computer died on me, I fell asleep, and woke up to have lunch in a pub in some town that was attached to the outstanding sight of Cerne Abbas. This was an impressive chalk drawing on a hill, basically it was quite large, and the most interesting feature of it was undoubtedly his large penis, there I said it! Everyone else was only making innuendo, but I have clearly stated that this giant got the bulk of his name from his penis, and now you know without any trace of doubt. Anyway after this we got to walk around on a big hill, in fact the largest hill fort in Britain, called Maiden, this was built around the year 3,000 BC crazy eh?

We then went to Weymouth, which was a nice coastal city, and I saw an old coastal fortress in the distance, we then later drove off and saw some nice light houses and things like that at what I believe was called, Portland Heights. We also got to see the sun set over the ocean and were also witness to some neat quarries, well as neat as quarries can be, but still it was pretty countryside. Following that, we went back to Weymouth and to our hotel, and I must confess our hotel rooms were quite nice, much better than our flats are, and the shower was long hot and consistent, a plus to be sure. Some mates and I went out to the pub sometime after our arrival at the hotel, and it was quite nice, and when we returned they thought it would be fun to take a swim off of the pebble beach into the channel at night... Now I do not know the actual temperature there, but I can tell you I sincerely doubt that it was comparable to any temperature you might find in the Carribean... so they went in, I was too cowardly to go in myself and was fortunate enough to forget my swimsuit anyway. They went in about waist deep, and then dunked themselves fully, after walking out, barefooted, they were in extra pain, additionally from the hypothermic like cold of the water, because of the sharp stones called the shores of the beach. Following this we went in and then to bed... upon waking the next day, we had a quick breakfast at the hotel and then drove out to a place along the coastline and went on what I would describe as an exquisite hike taking quite a while to do.

We walked along the coast and everything for a while, and on the way I talked to a very nice lady, who was accompanying the group, who had lived in Denver for a while back in the 80's, so I was quite eager to talk to her, as few people here really even know where Denver is. It was a bit of a rugged hike, and on the way, we found a very old and small square building, which was used as a church, but could not have been longer than 10' to a side. I saw a beautiful little cottage, just in a little valley looking into the channel, oh how I yearned to stay there longer. It was so rustic and withdrawn from the bustling life that is city life in London, and it just made me long for the day that I too will be able to go back to the mountains of Colorado and not be disturbed for hours as I sit solitarily in the comforts of nature, but I digress. Following that, my favourite part of the trip by far came, and it was one I did not expect... after a meal at a lovely pub, we walked up to Corfe Castle, a royal castle built by the Normans and bombed by the Roundheads so it was kind of dilapidated but it was just so pleasant especially with the little town just off of it, and a beautiful little cottage just down the hill from it, it made me yearn more than anything to live a simple life in the country and away from large cities, but someday I shall. It was serenity in the extreme and I was so very happy to be there that day, of course it helped that the weather was very cooperative, but somehow I feel that even if it had been overcast and especially rainy it only would have enhanced the charms not hurt them. After this ideal spot of being, we then went to a sandy beach, which are very rare in Britain, and walked along for a while, and in fact went by a naturist beach where we indeed saw three men walk out in the buff playing frisbee with themselves, but at least that is all they were playing with themselves. After hastily getting through that, we went back and returned home getting in somewhat late and finishing off a great day and trip out to Dorset
