Berlin was an interesting city to see today, but not quite as appealing or nice as the last few cities I had the pleasure of visiting. To begin, I awoke around 9:00 possibly as late as 9:30 and roused myself to begin writing the entry for last night. Nate and Asia had left the room, but returned a little after I went to eat breakfast, and asked me if I wanted to join them for the day, feeling it rude to deny them, and also because company is somewhat rare and wanting on this trip, I thought I should take the opportunity, although it may not be quite as productive or efficient as being alone, still I had already experienced so much of this trip alone anyway, my only or at least biggest reservation was being a third wheel. I did however accept their invitation and we were off, first to the Fernzentrum or the huge tower that the East Berlin government made (presumably in the 60's) and is gigantic in Berlin and ugly. Anyway, after that we worked our way down and saw the Pergamon Museum, which was amazing, because it had so many huge exhibits and was a really nice museum, they basically mostly had reconstructions of a lot of ancient Roman and Babylonian buildings, taken from the actual cities. Following this, we stopped and got some bratwursts as well as some coffee, or rather chai type drink for me, and then headed our way down to Mitte, which is the centre or middle of town if you like. We walked up to the Brandenburg Gate, which I have to say seemed amazing to be standing at, just because you see it in so many pictures, and it is quite interesting, but it made me wonder why it was so famous in the first place, or more famous than anything else.
Following that, and having had the pleasure of walking beneath it, we walked to the Reichstag and sat there for a while, it seemed like a cool building, especially to go in the glass dome, at the top, speaking of Doms I should mention we were very close to the Berlin Cathedral earlier and the Fountain of Neptune as well as some very interesting looking churches. We did not however go in, but instead we walked a little by the Tier Garten, which we did not see as much as I had wanted, but perhaps that is what tomorrow is for, but we did walk by Potsdam and there was a big section of the Wall left over and I naturally made sure to get some pictures and all. We then decided to go back to the hostel to come back later and explore more. This we did, and we went and ate dinner there, which was actually decent, then we played a game or two of pool, and I ended up speaking with this English bloke from Manchester, as well as an Australian sheila, or girl if you will. We then went upstairs to lie down for a little while, but ended up sleeping for probably over an hour, when I awoke Nate had gone down to the bar, and just Asia and I were left in the room. We woke up about the same time, and she and I talked a lot, strangely enough about cussing in different languages, particularly Polish, English and Russian. We went downstairs, and I found Nate sitting at a table smoking and drinking a beer, and I sat with him and a little later Asia joined us, we talked about a ton of things including class in America and more importantly to me, teaching English abroad, which was really fun, and informative. We then went to bed, and at the end I found myself typing this very sentence...
