A busy day, but all in all a good one, if not the most frugal day I’ve had here. To begin I slept in far past my alarm, but when I did wake up, I tried to get everything together to go the embassy and was more or less successful in this. Among the things I did to get ready was to buy a ticket online to A Christmas Carol the one man play of none other than the man himself... that’s right Captain Picard, and Dr. Xavior... Patrick Stewart! Only cost me 10 bob too, well with a little surcharge of a little over 3 quid. Afterward I walked down Portobello Road to Notting Hill Gate, and got on the Central Line there, to Bond Street. When I got off, I walked right up to the embassy and saw something that made me laugh. What I saw seemed very much like deja vu from a few weeks before. What I saw was a lovely sign that said something to the effect of “Tanzanian High Commission closed for 9th December and 14th December for Tanzanian public holiday” I swear I saw the exact same thing with the lovely Kenyan embassy. Oh well, it happens sometimes I guess. Anyway, a little annoyed, but mostly bemused, I resolved to come back on Monday and go through the fun process again. Anyway, after this, I went back to Notting Hill Gate, and I walked by the market but noticed some things. I firstly noticed a booth selling hats, and there I was intrigued. I actually found the ‘Kangol’ style hats I liked so much, I wanted to get a dark blue one, but could not find it in my size. I then went to Tesco to buy some food and I went back to the flat.
On the way there, I found another great thing on the market that I had been searching for, for a while, besides the hat of course... a great military coat, well not a military one, but one that hangs down below my knees. I did however find one of those that happened to be a French army coat, and I thought hmm, I’ll go put my stuff in the apartment and then go back and get this fine coat. I did that, I set my stuff down and told my roommate Erika I was going to go buy a coat, and ran out the door. I found two more coats behind the French ones, that were far more too my liking, and they were RAF ones! They looked capital and I was very pleased to shell out the 25 quid for one of them that fit me absolutely perfectly. You have to understand I had been seeking a coat like this for about a month, and it just fell into my lap. I went back to the apartment and tried it on (again) and was very pleased. After some thought and lunch and messing about on the internet I went back to the market and bought one of those ‘Kangol’ style hats, but I made up my mind at the flat to buy a bright and shiny red one, for many reasons, but basically so it would really stand out, and believe me it does. With the addition of this hat to my collection I now have two red hats, both of which were bought in Europe... my Jägerhut (or hunter’s hat) and this one. After that I returned home, watched a wee bit of TV and talked with Seamus, after all tomorrow is the last day living here, and I won’t see him again until he makes a brief stop here on the 21st.
After hanging out a bit he and I were off to school to for a end of the year party that the school was hosting. When we got there they were playing some music fairly loudly and it just didn’t really seem to be my scene, so I said bullocks to this I’m not staying at something like this for three hours that I don’t really enjoy and found myself going home. When I got there, I completed my journals from the couple of days previous and talked to a few people, and that is it up until now... oh here are some new pics and please notice that the unusual cars are parked on my street all the time, I always thought they were weird and worth taking a picture of, so here you go. I particularly like the Rover, and the Viking on front. Oh and the strange looking train one, is a train the Circle line on the Underground has to promote the 2012 Olympics. I took this a few days ago, and if I find it again, I’ll definitely take a better picture of it.
